The Los Angeles Gender Center provides referrals to affiliate therapists who have expertise in the area of gender, gender identity, and gender dysphoria. They offer identity affirming, individual and family therapy services to children, adults, parents, and partners. Because our affiliates operate in private practice, fees, insurance, and scheduling are managed by each individual affiliate and are not determined by LAGC. Due to COVID-19, all services are being provided via teletherapy and will be for the foreseeable future.
PEER SUPPORT GROUPS
LAGC offers peer support groups for transmasculine, transfeminine, and non-binary individuals, and collaborate with Transforming Family's support group for parents of non-binary and transgender children, adolescents, and young adults. Due to COVID-19, all groups are held via Zoom.
CHILD, ADOLESCENT, AND FAMILY SERVICES
Raising a child who does not fit neatly within the male and female gender binary can bring many questions and uncertainties. It is a journey where support can lessen challenges while providing clarity and insight. LAGC's Child, Adolescent, and Family Services program (CAFS) works with children between the ages of 2 and 16 and their families. We believe a collaborative approach is critical to your child or adolescent's well-being. Therapists working in the CAFS program have specialized training and experience working with children and adolescents in this age group, as well as with their parents and family. In addition to therapy, and when appropriate, we offer referrals to medical providers at the Center for Transyouth Health and Development at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. Our parent support group, Transforming Family, is a specialized support group specifically for parents of gender non-conforming and transgender children. We provide training, education, and legal advocacy for public and private schools, camps, churches, synagogues, and other places that children, adolescents, and parents may need support. RECOMMENDATION LETTERS FOR SURGERY
We believe that requiring referral letters for gender-affirming procedures is a discriminatory practice that supports the continued disenfranchisement of trans and gender non-conforming community members. We believe there is no one gender journey, narrative, or right way to transition, and each person's experience is valid. Letters will follow the Standards of Care and the insurance company's requirements and include the minimum necessary for approval. There is no fee for this service.
